About Us

A family name.
A standard of care.

Lamba is a family name before it is a company name. The family has owned care homes since 2007, and the name sits above them as a promise of personal accountability — that the people who make the decisions are the people you can meet.

Family owned

Owned by a family, run as a home.

Family ownership changes what a care group pays attention to. We are not managing a portfolio at arm's length; we are looking after two homes that carry our surname, in communities where we are known.

In practice it is straightforward. The family visits each home regularly, usually weekly. We know the managers and many of the staff personally. We look at standards ourselves, support the Registered Managers, approve the investment and keep an eye on the finances that make it possible.

Day-to-day care and the running of each home are the responsibility of its Registered Manager and their team — that is their professional role, and we do not stand in the way of it. What the family provides is oversight, continuity and a long view: a kitchen, a garden or a training programme rarely pays back inside a financial year, but it is exactly the sort of decision you make when you intend to still be here in twenty years.

Personal accountability

Named owners, reachable and answerable.

Long-term decisions

Judged over years, not quarters.

Close involvement

In the homes most weeks, not only in the numbers.

Clear responsibilities

Registered Managers lead the care; the family holds the standard.

Our story

From a shop counter to a nursing home door.

Before the family came into care, it ran Lamba News & Off Licence — a local convenience shop and newsagent. It was demanding work, and it was done in full view of the people it served. The family knew its customers by name, and the family name was the reputation.

When the shop was sold, the family chose to move into the care sector. Running a shop did not teach anyone how to nurse; what it did teach was work ethic, being present, and answering personally for the standard of what you provide. Those habits came with us.

In 2007 the family acquired Swarthdale Nursing Home in Ulverston, an established home taken on from its previous owners. In 2009 it acquired St Winifred's Nursing Home in Rastrick, Brighouse, in the same way. Nearly two decades on, both homes are still in the family's hands.

Nearly two decades in care

Experience earned by staying the course.

Two homes in nearly twenty years is a deliberate record. Everything the family has learned about running a nursing home has come from living with the same two buildings, the same communities and the same teams through good inspections and difficult ones.

Long ownership makes certain things possible: managers who are known personally, staff who stay, families who can speak to the same people years apart, and investment decisions judged over a decade rather than a quarter.

Our philosophy

The values we lead with.

The most important thing to our family is that residents, staff and families feel welcome, heard and reassured. That means leading with compassion, dignity, integrity and accountability. Everything else is in service of that.

Compassion

Care delivered with warmth and understanding, so residents and staff feel welcome and valued.

Dignity

Privacy, choice and self-respect protected in the small moments of every day.

Integrity

Honest, open communication with families — open doors and truthful updates.

Accountability

Standards written down, checked and answered for by the family whose name is above the door.

Continuity

Long-term ownership, stable teams and relationships that families can return to years apart.

Community

Homes that keep their local character, close relationships and a genuine sense of belonging.

Our homes

One group. Homes with their own character.

A good care home belongs to its village, its street and the people who live in it. Our homes keep their names, their teams and their traditions. What they share is the Lamba standard behind them: the experience built up since 2007, consistent oversight and standards, shared learning and investment — support behind each home rather than a template imposed on it.

Our people

Exceptional care starts with exceptional people.

Everything a family hopes for — warmth, patience, clinical judgement, a familiar face at breakfast — comes down to the person on shift. So we recruit for character as carefully as for qualifications, and we take the development of our teams seriously.

That means proper induction, ongoing training, clear routes to progress into senior and nursing roles, and managers who are supported rather than left to cope. Continuity of staff is one of the quietest indicators of a good home, and we work hard for it.

Our future

Building carefully, for the long term.

Lamba Care Group is the next chapter rather than a new beginning. Both homes are owned through Vishomil Ltd; the Lamba name is the group brand now being brought over them, so that the family standing behind each home is visible rather than assumed.

We are building for the long term, and we intend to grow carefully — welcoming homes that share our values, when we are confident we can give them the same attention. Growth should never cost us our culture, our personal involvement, our standards, or what makes each home itself.

The measure stays the same as it has been since 2007: every home carrying our name should be somewhere we would be content for our own family to live.
